My Favorite Season

No more dragging the dog (and myself) through the cloying heat, looking straight ahead to the end of the walk, desperate for a glass of water.

Now I can look up at the leaves taking on color against the (more frequently) blue sky. Looking down, I see the last of the pink and purple summer petals scattered among the newly fallen leaves. Yeah, so they are mostly coming from the sick maples this early in the season. I'll have to enjoy them while I can, before the trucks and men with saws come and take them away forever.

It's time to visit the farmers' market and buy apples in brown paper bags. Hopefully those bags will find their way into some new artwork soon. I've developed quite a think for brown paper bags.

I'm hoping that the fresh air and harvest colors will whip up my creative energy.

Thanks to all of you who commented on my last post. Hope I didn't come off as arrogant, implying that all artwork had to have vast depths of meaning to avoid being a worthless piece of poo. I'm trying to discover the reason(s) behind my latest slump. I know I am lucky to be able to even entertain a slump for any length of time. This one is a long one, though.

What do you do when trying to crawl out of a slump?

That last post did provoke a lot of interesting conversation! These fall pieces you've posted are beautiful...I'm enjoying the fall here in South Dakota too! Ah, the inevitable slump....I find what helps is to keep my hands moving....making anything, even if its awful. I find I think through my hands and the only way to discover the new path is by forging ahead and seeing where my hands take me! It's often a surprisingly new way of working. Cheers!

Love the autumn colors - its by far the best season of the year.

Unfortunately there is no magic remedy to a slump. You just gotta let it run its course, sort of like the flu. Do things you enjoy - read, watch movies, visit museums. It will return when the time is right.

Slump Relief - go into the studio and empty your trash can. Dust. Clean up. Then look through your stash and see what you might need. Look out the window while standing at your drafting table. Sigh and enjoy!

Autumn invariably pulls me out of a slump. The change in the air is like a signal and since it puts me in a better frame of mind after the sizzling days of summer I just begin working every morning until I feel my enthusiasm return.
I love the leaf prints in these pieces. The top one is wonderful with the black and white stripe.

I love the way you've put those bits of pink in there....something that is unexpected but also exactly how it is in the Fall sometimes.
